Liberatory Business
I learned a new term today: Liberatory Business.
At the heart of it, this means doing business in a way that “liberates” others instead of oppressing them (as our current United States capitalistic white-supremacist patriarchal system does).
In plain english, Liberatory Business is an anti-capitalistic business model which leaves everyone who encounters it better off than before, whether they actually even made a purchase or not.
So instead of using the predatory models that we’ve all learned as a “normal” part of doing business… ie: giving a webinar with a sales pitch at the end, preying on people’s fears & desires, using fake countdown timers to boost sales, turning ourselves into a “niche” while silencing the other pieces of our SELF so we can better become a “personal brand”…
We can choose to do things differently.
Using a Liberatory Business model, we question ourselves BEFORE we do “business as norm,” ensuring we’re doing no harm in the process (even to ourselves).
We participate in ethical business practices, AND ethical marketing practices. We treat ourselves as WHOLE beings instead of defining ourselves by what we do. We try to make things as accessible for others as possible. We conduct business with transparency. And we do it for the greater good… not just to make the most money, the quickest. No, we don’t need to martyr ourselves for the sake of our business, or give it all away. But it’s doing business for GOOD… for ourselves, and for our community.
I’ve only just learned about “liberatory business.” And it’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for.
And if you’re curious about it, I highly recommend checking out Simone Seoul ‘s new LIBERATORY BUSINESS podcast.
For now, I’m gonna explore some more. Because while I’m still figuring out all the pieces and how to put them all together… THIS is how I wanna do things.
Differently.
